Spring Term 2025
The children have been busy being funny to raise money for Comic Relief by hosting a joke competition in each class. The school council then read through each class's winning joke and voted for the overall winner – Well done to Enzo in Zephaniah class! Throughout the day classes took part in different Red Nose Day activities such as: quizzes, pin the red nose on the teacher, guess the laugh and design their own red noses.
This term we have been continuing our topic on 'Wars of the World' . We have learnt some of the 'MAIN' causes for WW1 including: militarism, alliances, imperialism and nationalism. In Science we have been learning all about light and have conducted some experiments showing how light travels in straight lines and how light can reflect off mirrors to help us see behind us or round corners, and we even had a go at making our own periscopes. In PE we have been learning hockey skills and continue gymnastics, learning some group dances. Finally we had our HYF workshop where we got to make some fantastic nature headbands.
During the last few weeks of term we have been continuing our basketball and gymnastic skills in PE. In LMTW we have been learning about different causes for war, and had a think about different conflicts and how we might resolve them. We also had a special visitor from Steve Frew, a Commonwealth gymnast.
We have been presenting information about hurricanes, cyclones and tornadoes in Learning Means the World. In PE we have been working on our core muscles and how to move into and out of inverted movements with control.
We have had a debate about what causes more damage, droughts or floods. The children got into two groups and each group had to research, then present and argue their case to the class. We also continued our gymnastics skills in PE.
PC Michael Dix from Thames Valley Police came to talk to Years 5 and 6 about the law and how the police deal with reports of bullying, misuse of social media and anti-social behaviour.
